This and That

First up, because Mae and I are really into self-photos right now…or maybe just I am. πŸ˜‰

:) I love this picture.

She was totally being a goof, even though you can’t tell. It made me laugh.

(And? My hair looks really good. I like those days.)

And a few other things…not sure if they are all deserving of smiley faces, but I will go ahead and tack them on in an effort to smile through ALL things.

:) Worked out tonight.

I still feel out of shape.

I did run a ten(ish) minute mile Saturday morning, though, so maybe I am getting there again. My goal is to break 30 on the next 5k I do.

We shall see.

:) I am not so happy with the biker dude two blocks down who decided to roar past my house three times this afternoon while Mae was napping.

T he third time

he woke her up for good. Grrrr…this mama marched herself outside to let him have it good.

And then chickened out.

:) I found my new favorite nail polish.

Less than $2 at Target, dries in a minute…and doesn’t get all clumpy, which has always been my experience with that kind of stuff. Maybe I can even paint Maelie’s toenails soon!

:) Andre = annoyed with Mae. He crawled under the porch furniture today and wouldn’t come out until she was napping.

That may have something to do with the fact that she was crawling all over him. Sammy, on the other hand = LOVES her. (And licks her to death until I yell at him to stop.) Haha.

:) I made these tonight. It is probably a good thing I worked out. (And I totally tweaked the recipe…I don’t deep fry ANYTHING.

It works fine to just pour little oil into the pan.) Make them for yourself…they’re really yummy!

(But don’t forget to work out after you eat them.)

:) I realized I never posted (or finished, for that matter) my deep blog post from a few days ago. Guess I better get on that, huh? Funny how I can write something in my head for days, but I sit down at the computer and the words leave. No fair.

:) Starting to get a teeny bit excited about going on vacation. (Though I am an expert packer, I do not necessarily enjoy the prep part of taking a trip.) Really, really looking forward to seeing friends we’ve missed. I can’t believe I get to hug them in TWO weeks! (This one is totally deserving of a smiley face!)

:) I think…that is all.

:) G’nite!

Sunday…um…Coffee?

Ok, just so we’re clear…I’m not drink ing

coffee.

I am, in fact, drinking Powerade Zero, the strawberry flavor.

Go for the lemon-lime should you want to try it…just sayin’. I’m also eating E.L. Fudge cookies, but not too many. It does say something about my impressive willpower that I’ve had these cookies in my possession for FIVE days and still have over half the package left. :)

If you hopped by today, the first thing you’d notice is that we’re missing a screen on our back porch. Should something too interesting pass by our house, I’m afraid that my dogs might just jump right out of the porch.

Hopefully Tobin will get back from Home Depot soon and replace the screen before anything too memorable happens! And the screen is being replaced because our obnoxious spirited dogs got a little too excited when the neighbor came over the other night. Heck, another screen needed to be replaced, too, so it’s good timing.

You will also notice that I am, very happily, typing On. My. Macbook. No, it’s not new. It’s just that my lovely computer, the one that’s been with me since

the beginning of this blogging journey (and before), decided to completely DIE this week.

Monday night, it just turned off.

Wouldn’t turn back on at ALL.

I got really scared and thought it was gone for good…it wouldn’t turn on for over 24 hours. Then, it decided to tease me…by turning on and dying immediately or within minutes. Over and over for a couple of days. On Friday it turned on and stayed on…and I haven’t had a problem since. We have a few theories…let’s hope we’re right and Mr.

Mac won’ t need any fur

ther attention. ‘Cause the Apple Hospital is not exactly high on my list of where I’d like my money to go.

The Maelie girl is currently going strong on what could be her longest nap all week…she’s at an hour and a half, which should tell you something about the week we’ve had. I’m a little worried that the nap may be coming to an end because there’s a lot of noise going on outside. Thankfully, Mae is still asleep for now…maybe she’s like her mama and can sleep through just about anything.

We can hope. :)

So I used to love vacation planning…when I had an ocean to look forward to. Now I am learning a new type of planning…and it’s good, but it feels weird to book a hotel for one night halfway to our destination, where we’ll be staying with friends.

No hotel needed. I am not sure we’ve ever done that. Nevertheless, we are heading out in two weeks…because we’re weird and we don’t actually vacation during the summer. We wait til everyone goes back to school.

At least this year we did. :)

We’ll be gone for 9ish days and are cramming in Green Bay, St. Louis, and Southaven (MS). The majority of our time will be spent in Southaven with friends from Indonesia and meeting up with a few other friends from our days with NICS. It will be really fun to revisit that part of our life.

So, yeah…lots of stuff going on.

It’s sorta been that kind of week. You know, the kind, where you seem to soak up the ocean of Grace you were previously drowning in…and find that you need more? I am so thankful for the grace I experienced this week…all of it undeserved…from my husband, from friends, from my Father.

Sometimes I feel like I’m falling apart.

Then I think of that song by Josh Wilson…

God, I want to know You more,
maybe this is how it starts.
I find You when I fall apart.

So thankful for others who love me, who forgive me…and for what I am learning from their example.

That wasn’t an easy sentence to write, but it’s true.

Well, I need to get back to planning.

And drinking my Powerade. πŸ˜‰

Mel + Tobin Put Their Words Together

This post comes with a disclaimer. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I am idea-less tonight.

Really.

I’m not uninspired…in fact, I have a pretty deep post going that’s not quite where it should be.

So come back tomorrow for that one.

:)

In the meantime, I bring you the first (and hopefully ONLY) version of “Mel and Tobin finish each other’s sentences.”

I’m in bold. Tobin’s not. :)

I can’t wait…to get the fence put up in our yard so we can just let the dogs out instead of take them out.

The cutest thing Maelie did today was…laugh over and over while playing catch with her Daddy.

I am not looking forward to…paying bills.

Once upon a time,

a pig went to the m

arket.

He bought…Maelie’s toes.

Once upon a time, Tobin sang really, really off-key and…the world didn’t end!

Oh give me a home…where the front room is NOT painted purple. Definitely time to paint.

I am really thankful…that Mel’s Macbook decided to come back to life.

Every single day, I wake up and…hit the snooze button on my alarm. At least twice.

My favorite thing about Mel is…how quickly she gets up in the morning.

On the end of the couch right now is…a pile of my clothes that I have worn at some point in the last week?!

And…last one…you should be thankful that…Mel is censoring what I write. But this could be a lot more fun if she didn’t.

:)

That’s all. And if you made it this far

? You are either an incredibly faithful reader… or having nothing else to do with your time.

G’nite, friends!

The Funniest Thing

Well, maybe not ever, but this made me laugh.

(And made me want to make sure I’m always watching my daughter!) It’s displayed in my new place of employment (aka: Mel’s “fun” job) that…ahem…I will talk about someday.

Soon.

(The picture isn’t original with me…I have it on my phone, but th is one

is from e-bay.

Go ahead, order it!) :)

Observations From the Couch in My Living Room

I am tired.

(Worked out an hour and a half with friends.)

Therefore, I am sitting on my couch and NOT moving.

My brain is also tired. (I’ve been writing a lot lately.)

So I’m just going to tell you what I see from my current vantage point.

You are sooooooo lucky.

  • Three loads of unfolded laundry in a basket about a foot from me. I am so overjoyed at the thought of MORE laundry. And while we’re on the subject, can anyone tell me why having one baby more than doubled the amount of laundry I do?
  • Maelie’s primary-color shoppin

g cart is full of random items. This means one of two things: either my husband threw all the toys from the floor into it OR my daughter is learning the concept of shopping.

    I choose the latter.

    :)

  • Maelie’s pack ‘n play takes up a lot of space in our living room. While I don’t wish for her to grow up too fast, it will be nice when we can put it away.

  • I have a hot pink Wii remote that I totally forgot I had. Which just goes to show you how often we actually play. I think we use it more for streaming Netflix.

  • Mae’s baby monitor is plugged in across the room. I am so frustrated that the battery life in those monitors is down to about three hours. Seriously?! Now we have to leave them plugged in all the time or get up two times during the night to switch them.

    Um, no thank you.

  • We have a stained glass decoration hanging up that was a wedding gift. It is cool enough that

I will post a picture for you sometime.

But not now. I’m too tired and don’t want to get up to actually take a photo.

  • I pulled out a couple scrapbooks two weeks ago to show a friend some pictures. They are still sitting on my dining room table. I, um, think I maybe need to clean more often.
  • We have a kind of small TV We originally bought it when we moved here just so we’d h ave something

and to give us time to save for a big one. And during that time we realized that we hardly turn it on…and that we’d rather spend the money on something else.

  • However, that TV is sitting on an end table.

(Still.) I really, really need to go to IKEA for a TV stand. Anyone up for a little shopping

    ?

There are probably a hundred more things I could observe, but I’m tired.

G’nite, world!

Random (and Tired) Saturday

–Slept ’til 8. That never happens, mostly because the girl doesn’t usually sleep that late!

Still tired when I woke up.

–Went to farmer’s m arket with

a friend. Still tired.

–Gr abbed

a coffee on the way home.

Still tired.

Seeing a theme here?! πŸ˜‰

–Fed Maelie a snack and put her down for a nap.

She talked for an hour in her crib and then slept for two.

–While she slept, I took a n

ap.

Woke up (still) tired.

–Tobin made pancakes and sausage for our very late lunch. (I could tell you that I was tired, but I think you already know that!)

–Went to run a couple errands with Tobin and Maelie.

( Bought cute, super-cheap purple sunglasses for me and a few shirts for Mae for next summer.

I love end-of-the-season clearance!)

–Came home, boxed up FOUR boxes of Maelie’s clothes and picked up her nursery, played with

her a bit, and then made pizza for dinner.

(NOT frozen. Just wanted you to know I did cook a little today!)

–Took a walk down the street to a friend’s house and then walked home. Eyelids drooping.

–Ran over to Judson to drop something off. (Eyelids still drooping.)

–Sitting on couch blogging…and ready for bed.

–It’s 8:30 p.m. and I am going to hit the hay. It is possible that I will get more sleep tonight than I’ve had since…oh, 2004. :)

G’nite!

A Bit of Everything

It’s just been a little-of-everything kind of day.

You know, the kind that starts with an early morning run requiring me to get up before six. By choice. What’s wrong with me? :)

Then it’s followed, literally, by one of the darkest mornings I’ve ever experienced. Storms, rain, thunder, lightning…and almost-blackness outside.

When I put Mae down for her morning nap, her nursery was completely dark…which I will admit helped speed up the falling asleep process.

So, no complaints.

Then it was just me for awhile…getting a few things done, catching up on a couple e-mails, writing a bit, watching half of Raising Helen, which is one of those movies that makes me laugh and cry repeatedly throughout. It was a good movie for today.

Mae took a good nap, and then it was time for lunch and a game of “Let’s-Get-Into-Everything”. It’s her favorite game. :) Today she discovered Uno cards, the stepladder, the fact that the kitchen drawers pull out, and that she can see her reflection in the oven door. She also tried to climb into (?) the dishwas her, but I

herded her out of there quickly.

We played and read books and played some more. And while I ate the last few pancakes for lunch, she came and stood by my knees, waiting for me to give her bites. I…ahem…think she may have learned this from the dogs.

I should probably not

indulge it. However, it was cute.

And funny. And passed some of the calories on to her instead of letting them go into me.

I decided we should try for two naps today since Mae was up very early this morning, and she agreed.

Nap 2 was a success and gave me a bit of time to do some more things.

Tobin came home early, and I left at five to go get a haircut.

A desperately needed one.

You know how I’ve been growing out my hair?

Ooops…well, so much for that! πŸ˜€ She took a good two inches off the back today…which, for a normal person, is not a lot, but when you’re me…it’ s a lot.

Yay for a haircut! I decided that summer is about the worst time to ever try growing out my hair. Maybe this winter… or maybe not.

I came home just as the refrigerator repair guy was finishing up…yep, things just keep breaking.

Mae played for awhile, had her bottle, and then went quietly to bed…that’s kinda rare.

I tried to call Delta to check on some tickets we’re gonna need soon :) but their phone lines were closed already so we played frisbee til it was too dark to see. I strummed my guitar and sang a few songs on the back porch, and now I’m hanging out here, soaking up every ounce of my life.

I’m so blessed.

Tomorrow is park day…AND closing day.

Can you believe it?!

So. Blessed.

Funnies of the Day

Random…I just love some of the things that made me smile to day.

“Life’s rough with watered-down Starbucks.” Said by a friend to my fussy daughter, who was playing with an almost-empty Starbucks cup.

“What is that, a mannequin in a red dress?” Said by another friend after spotting something 50 yards away in a field.

“Um, no. It’s a fire hydrant.” Said by me.
Followed by a LOT of l

aughter. πŸ˜€

Ok, then.
Does that strike anyone else as funny

?

R andom convers

ation about a crazy hair day in the past.

Mel: One year Tobin and I did a good job with crazy hair day.
Naomi: How did you manage that, Tobin

? (My hubby is bald, just so ya know.

;))

Ok, so you probably had to be there.

But it was good to laugh.

Really good.

Little Blessings

Today was full of them.

:) Blueberry pancakes for breakfast.

:) A late birthday gift for Mae that came in the mail.

It really made me smile.

:) A short but sweet visit from Tobin’s cousin and his wife…which included lunch at my favorite place.

So good to see them and chat for a bit.

:) Another late birthday gift for Mae and the cutest v ase ever

as a housewarming gift for us.

Thinkin’ we need to go buy some flowers soon.

:) Going to Immanuel’s Summer Youth Theater production of Alice in Wonderland with a friend. It was a really good show, and it made me smile again.

:) A napless wonder of a daughter who was so happy to see me when I came upstairs to rescue her from her crib. That smile melts my heart every single time.

:) Watching Mae take three steps while holding on to her push toy.

So, so close!

Any day now!

:) Managing to come up with something for dinner without going out to get anything.

:) A daughter who loves Little House on the Prairie as much

as I do. (Yeah, I’m addicted.)

:) Frisbee tossing with my man.

:) Letting my heart hurt over things…and being able to give them to God.

:) Feeling blessed with where we are in life. It’s good. So is He.
