LOL!

Ok, just so we’re being up front, I typically don’t use “LOL”.

Unless I really do laugh out loud.

..then it’s ok. :)

Today I totally laughed out loud.

For real…I’m surprised I didn’ t wake up Maelie.

😉

For those of you on facebook, you know how there will be friends’ previous status updates that randomly pop up on the sidebar

? And how they can be from eons ago?

This showed up a few minutes

ago.

Tobin Schroeder: My wife’s water is going to break on Monday!

I laughed so stinkin’ hard. 😀

Then I stopped, and thought to myself…Goodness, I’m so glad that’ s not true anymore!

Haha. :)

Thought I’d share.

The Great Schroeder Adventure…Day 9

Well, all good things must come to an end, huh?

We finished the drive home today. Got up early, left the hotel by 8, and were home by 12:30 thanks to a FABULOUS nap taken by the sweet girl, who was exhausted.

We drove straight through, ignoring the fact that I chose a bad morning for a gas station 44 oz.

Anyway, that was probably too much information.

Today was a very anti-climatic end to the trip, but that’s ok. Maelie didn’t miss a beat, going straight from the car to her slide.

We did “celebrate” coming home by going grocery shopping as a family.I’m not sure that’s a celebration, but none of us had a meltdown, though one came close.

It’s good to be home…and I’m so completely looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight. :)

Thanks for following along.

The Great Schroeder Adventure…Day 8

We left Mississippi today around 1:30 p.m.

It was a great trip, and we’re thankful for the time we could spend catching up with friends.

Like I’ve said many times before, often on our trips half of the adventure is getting there…or going home, in our case today.

The adventures just kept coming.

First up? I have always wanted to try one of these out…they obviously entered Americ a when I was out of the country, and today there was one IN a clean bathroom, WITH working straps. So, after Maelie had her diaper changed, she got to try this out.

Yes, it’s cute. Even more so, it’s complete genius. This mommy thanks the inventor of…whatever it’s called. 😉

Then…at the same travel plaza, no less, THIS!

64 oz. of create-your-own caffeinated glory. Vanilla Coke Zero was our choice today.
Six hours later I’m still workin’ on it, though it is almost gone. Mmmmmm…

Then, the Cutie totally fell asleep. She has been quite anti-nap this entire trip.) But I couldn’t resist taking this picture, and I know you won’t be able to resist ooohing and aaahing over the adorableness oozing all over the place.

We stopped at Fazoli’s for dinner, and Maelie got a free kids’ meal, which we totally did not plan. I love happy surprises like that! In the first picture, she looks so stinkin’ cute in her I-am-SOOOO-ready-for-this-Italian-feast bib…which she ripped off two minutes later.

But you can see from this shot that the lasagna was a hit. :)

Then we drove more and found a hotel. Just as a side note, we splurged in St. Louis. This? Was a coupon-special, right-off-the-freeway, cheap find. It’s not half bad for being all that. And the best part is, Maelie doesn’t care. She loves, loves, LOVES hotel rooms. Already.

And having cuddle times with daddy.

I wonder what adventures tomorrow will bring. :)

The Great Schroeder Adventure…Day 1

So, yeah…we’ re officially on vacation.

Day #1…Green Bay.

We ended up leaving home earlier today than we had planned so we went to Bay Beach. Maelie had fun with her second cousin, Graham, and she also went on her first carousel ride and train ride. So cute…and pics will be coming from that later. :)

Tobin and I also got to go on the Zippin’ Pippin, the new wooden roller coaster. A fifteen-minute date with my hubby…and I screamed like crazy…and gripped the bar so tight that I drew blood. Seriously, it had been almost a decade since I’d been on a roller coaster. I can’t say I loved it, but I didn’t die.

That’s good, right? 😉

Here’s a pic of us just before the infamous, blood-drawing, coaster ride.

Labor Day

It was fun…well, most of it. :)

We actually had a really wonderful weekend… which I may chat more about later this week.

But to day

actually started out with my hubby taking a (planned) trip to the ER for x-rays.

The results? A broken hand.

His right one.

(Which, by the way, has been broken since Saturday.) Not good at all. Pray for him, please…it’s Tob’s busy time at work, and he’s feeling extra pressure to be productive because we’ll be on vacati

on all next week. Right now he has a temporary cast until he goes to see an orthopedic doctor later this week…then he’ll get the real deal. There’s some concern with the particular bone that he broke, so please pray for complete healing and patience for both of us.

Definitely NOT what we

were expecting, but nothing surprises God.

Moving on from the broken hand, though, we did have a good day.

We had a kind-of-last-minute lunch with some friends down the street we hadn’t seen for awhile. It was good to catch up a bit and eat probably the best burger I’ve had in months. :)

While Maelie was napping we played a little bocce ball, and Tobin managed to beat me left handed.

Well, then. I guess we know who reigns supreme in bocce world…even with a broken hand.

We headed across the street for a cookout with some friends (including some new ones :)) and it was a lot of fun. Maelie loved being the center of attention, probably a little too much.

Great food, yummy dessert, and just good to hang out with cool people. :)

Then we came home and ended up hanging out on our lit-by-white-Christmas-lights porch with our friends/neighbors Tim and Lex. Some good chatting…and some deep conversation.

Good stuff.

It really was a wonderful day.

Feeling very,

very blessed.

Mel + Tobin Put Their Words Together

This post comes with a disclaimer. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I am idea-less tonight.

Really.

I’m not uninspired…in fact, I have a pretty deep post going that’s not quite where it should be.

So come back tomorrow for that one.

:)

In the meantime, I bring you the first (and hopefully ONLY) version of “Mel and Tobin finish each other’s sentences.”

I’m in bold. Tobin’s not. :)

I can’t wait…to get the fence put up in our yard so we can just let the dogs out instead of take them out.

The cutest thing Maelie did today was…laugh over and over while playing catch with her Daddy.

I am not looking forward to…paying bills.

Once upon a time,

a pig went to the m

arket.

He bought…Maelie’s toes.

Once upon a time, Tobin sang really, really off-key and…the world didn’t end!

Oh give me a home…where the front room is NOT painted purple. Definitely time to paint.

I am really thankful…that Mel’s Macbook decided to come back to life.

Every single day, I wake up and…hit the snooze button on my alarm. At least twice.

My favorite thing about Mel is…how quickly she gets up in the morning.

On the end of the couch right now is…a pile of my clothes that I have worn at some point in the last week?!

And…last one…you should be thankful that…Mel is censoring what I write. But this could be a lot more fun if she didn’t.

:)

That’s all. And if you made it this far

? You are either an incredibly faithful reader… or having nothing else to do with your time.

G’nite, friends!

Tonight…

w e w

ent out on a family date to On the Border.

Usually our “family dates” consist of the Sonic Drive-Thru, or if we’re really feeling brave, we sit in our car an eat ice cream!

The big time, I know.

After our slightly-less-than-romantic anniversary dinner on Wednesday, I think Tobin and I were both wanting to go some plac

e we knew

we liked.

The problem is, we took Mae.

And don’t get me wrong…I have the most wonderful daughter ever. I love that girl.

But taking her to dinner with us

? To a sit-down-and-order-and-wait-for-your-food place

?

Um, yeah.

So she actually wasn’t too bad before the food came, other than semi-consistently letting out the new high-pitched squeal she has discovered.

(It’s not cute…it’s ear-splitting.)

When Mae’s taco (with extra tomatoes…very important) came, we cut it up and gave it to her. She loves tacos (and tomatoes).

What did she do

?

Started throwing…not dropping…it all over.

Then we tried rice.

Even worse.

It was the most un-peaceful meal we’ve had in a long time.

Not sure what was up with her or her lack of On The Border lovin’.

MY tacos were good.

:) And Tobin’s burrito was the size of Texas. Close, anyway.

But there must’ve been something not quite so wonderful about Maelie’s dinner.

I w as frustr

ated a bit at the time, but it IS a memory.

That toothy, silly, ornery grin she would flash as she pitched the rice here and there… was kinda cute.

And she does make me smile…and make me thankful to be her mommy.

I just don’t think we’ll be taking her back to On the Border anytime soon. 😉

9 Years Ago Today…

I married my man.

Wedding Photo

To tell you that marriage has been the fairy tale I always dreamed of would be lying.

But to tell you that our marriage has stretched us, shaped us, and helped us grow…that’s better.

Today we are putting behind us the most difficult year of our marriage so far.

I suppose when you throw first-time parenting, transcontinental relocation, and a brand new everything all together, there’s bound to be some stress.

We’ve had some really wonderful times together this year, but some pretty stinkin’ hard times, too.

I don’t say this to sound negative…it’s true. But I think the ways we’ve grown through those hard times are what has strengthened us as a couple and as a family.

Yesterday I was showing a friend one of our wedding albums…not because our anniversary is today, but because I was looking for something else and found it instead.

:) I’m glad we have it because we accidentally taped over the video of our wedding.

Ooops.

But one thing I still have (on my iPod of all places) is this. (Ok, it’s at the bottom of the post because WordPress wouldn’t let me put it here. :))

The song I sang with three good friends just after I walked down the aisle. (I will not publicly identify these friends… unless they want to identify themselves in the comments.

:))

It’s cheesy, but I love envisioning that moment…as I was just about to pledge my life to the man I loved, not knowing what would come our way…but being completely ok with the unknown.

Marriage has brought so much more than I ever imagined, and though at times it would have been so much easier to give up, I’m so thankful we’ve stuck to the commitment we made to each other.

..and chosen to go forward.

Tobin, I love you. I love your strong, provider instinct but also the way you say dorky things to make me giggle like a ten year old girl.

I love the daddy you are to our daughter and the way she lights up when she sees you. While I don’t always appreciate our differences and the ways that you challenge me, I know that you’re good for me…that we’re good for each other. I love so much about you, and I look forward to many, many more years of celebrating with you.

Happy Anniversary. :)

Awesome

I had a few thoughts to share tonight…and then my hubby walked up the stairs to bring me

something.

I needed? Toilet paper. 😉

This? Is what he brought me.

It HAD to be my blog post tonight.

Goodness, can she GET any cuter

?

It’s My Hubby’s Birthday!

Tobin doesn’t typically make a big deal out of himself…EVER.

It’s just who he is…and it counters the drama I tend to create everywhere

I go. :)

We are opposites in so many ways, but I love him and am learning to

love the ways we are different.

I’m so thankful for days like today when I can celebrate him.

He turned 34 today.

There are so many things I love about Tobin: the sacrificial love he has for his family, the sarcastic and witty take he has on life, the value he places on relationships, his willingness to follow God’s leading in faith and model that faith to those around him.

I am beyond blessed to share this journey with him.

Happy Birthday, Tobin. We love you so much!

P.S. And he got the most INCREDIBLE birthday gift, which I’ll tell you all about tomorrow! :)
