My God-Sized Dream: What to Give, What to Give

Find a way to pay it forward. Youโ€™ve been encouraged in your God-sized dreams by your sisters here the last few months. How can you spread that encouragement forward by investing in other dreamers? It can be small and simple or BIG and wild. Ask God what you can do and get creative.

I read this last week.

I maybe went to hide under the bed after I read it. Or, maybe I just thought about hiding. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And then I spent several days tossing it around in my head…

What to do, what to do…

What to give, what to give…

And then I landed on a Great. BIG. HUH?!

Zero direction. God? I’m a little confused.

So I walk a little on the crazy-dreaming side sometimes. Big surprise, huh?! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I tend to come up with grand schemes and plans in my head, plans that often are really a little too far out there. (That’s why I am married to T…he keeps my head from completely floating off into the clouds.)

I’m also a gift-giver which does not always go well with being crazyish…again, thank you, hubby, for keeping me grounded enough that I don’t give away our second car or an all-expenses-paid trip to Bora Bora.

Kidding, kidding. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s just that when I read this, God said Give.

Give what, God? What do I possibly have to give?

How do I invest in another dreamer when I’m wading through what exactly my own dreams look like?

And then I just took some time to think about my dreams…what He’s doing with them, where (I think) I’m headed with them, and what might be the next step.

I’m in that season of waiting and searching and praying…I’m not exactly sure what comes after dashing out a 37,000 word rough draft. I’m not exactly sure how to pursue being a writer for a bigger blog when it seems that sometimes I can barely keep up with my own space and life. And I’m scared of Twitter, too…which seems to be a necessary aspect to anything these days.

There, I said it. Really. Any and all Twitter advice would be greatly appreciated. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, as I was tossing these things around in my brain and in my heart, He reminded me of a few things.

Prayer and encouragement.

They seem small, but I think of the times that, out of the blue, someone has sent a text of encouragement or offered a prayer for me…those mean so much to a tired and struggling heart.

And maybe that’s where I am right now, too…I may not have anything wild and crazy or earth-shattering to give or share, but I can

And maybe there was a gentle reminder, too, that my eyes don’t always need to be on me. Maybe in this season of waiting and praying, He’s asking me to look and see what I can do for others…

Maybe someone needs a friend.

Or a safe place to cry.

Or a shopping buddy…I’m really good at that one!

Or a chitchat over coffee. I do that really well, too.

I’m praying God will keep my eyes open to what those around me might need.

How are you doing, friend? Is there something I can pray for? Do you just need a word of encouragement? Leave me a comment or send me an email. I’d love to pray for you.

And, who knows? Maybe I’ll be giving away an all-expenses-paid trip to the tropics someday soon. ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s Tuesday! My dreaming sisters and I are hanging out at Holley’s space. Come by and say hello…we’d love to see you there!

God-Sized Dreams

  1. You are such a beautiful encourager! Thank you for all the ways you’ve been there for me…from hundreds of miles away…these past few months! We need to facetime again soon! :)

  2. I love how you struggled with this as I did. You are encouraging and I love reading your blog! As far a twitter goes I am not sure I see the point.{not sure that qualifies as advice} Blessings for the week sister dreamer!

  3. <3 :) Prayers and words of encouragement are the best surprise gifts :) Your words are beautiful!

  4. Mel, I just love your heart. You have become sure an encouragement to me that when I visit other blog on the link-up I am looking to see what encouraging words you leave as a comment. Thanks so much for that.

The best thing I found for Twitter is the Buffer app that lets you schedule some tweets all during the day. I spend a few minutes each night looking for quotes or scriptures to tweet and schedule them. That way I don’t have to think about it and I know I have atleast those 4 going out. I may or may not tweet more in a day but those 4 are handled.

    • You are so sweet and your comments always bring such a smile to my face. :) Thank you, friend, for the blessing you are!

Thanks for the Twitter info, too…I know there has to be an effective way to actually use it; I just need to take the time to figure it out. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ll have to check out that app.

  5. I am with you on the fear and confusion. ๐Ÿ˜€
However, like you, I arrived at extending the encouragement. Even the smallest wordsโ€”or 140 characters of Twitterโ€”can feel so big and comforting. Thanks for the encouragement!

    • Yep, totally agree…I think encouragement (and prayer, of course!) is what has built this beautiful community into what it is. I’m so blessed by you, my sweet dreamer friend! Happy week to you! :)

  6. Another Tuesday and another wonderful post Mel. Your writing brightens my days!!

  7. Mel, this is beautiful. what a great gift we can give with our words; I’d go for the tropics trip too ๐Ÿ˜‰
You have done a wonderful job just by having your blog for us viewers :)
God is going to do great things through your dreams! Dream on :)
You’ve given me a gift already with the sarong; a nice note to top it all off :)
I love the design up close and it will definitely be used a lot this summer!
    Thanks a million Mel :)

    • As I typed this post, I was thinking…hmmm, it IS about time for another trip to the tropics. Oh, well…maybe someday soon! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m so glad you liked the sarong…I hope you enjoy using it! Thank you for your sweet words and encouragement…blessings to you this week, friend!

  8. You are such an encourager and blessing to me! Thanks for being you.

I am better after battling a super busy week and sinus infection. I could use prayers about a new direction I want to in career-wise. I need several different pieces to fall into place or for God to give me a better set of directions.

    Blessings! Holly

    • I will definitely keep you in my prayers and ask God to give you clear direction and leading. And I’m sorry you’ve been sick…no fun at all. I hope you’re at least on the mend now! Have a wonderful week, my friend. :)

      • I went to the doctor today and got a Z Pack so I should fully functional by the weekend.
I went to lunch with my sort-of boss (complex management situation) and had a good conversation about my direction at work. He even suggested a path I had not considered. All is good food for thought. Keep those prayers coming. I need to be strong and stand up for what I really want.

  9. This is such a beautiful post, and I love knowing that I’ll get to see you at Allume so we can chat about all these dreams face to face!

  10. Dear Mel, I was so happy to see you on the link-up, so I could just click right over to your blog. I so enjoyed reading it last week. You already ARE a big encouragement and blessing to others. Thank you for allowing God to use you in such a special way, and thank you for sharing your heart. God bless you! Love, Cheryl

    • Hi, Cheryl! Thank you for your sweet words and for stopping by to encourage me! You are such a blessing…have a wonderful week! :)

  11. I find myself in a waiting period at times too…but I think God just calls us to be a light, and encouragement to others….and that is what you are doing. Book or no book, fancy giveaways or creative tweets…you are being a light and that is what is important!!

    • Thank you, friend…you are blessing. Thanks for being you…we really need to have coffee soon. Yes, please come to Chicago. Please please please?! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Hi Mel! I think I felt the same way when I read this week’s assignment, I wanted to hide out and not do it. I though who in the world could I bless and encourage. I’m not sure if my post is what Holley had in mind, but it’s what came to my mind when I sat down to right :) You are a great encourager, and I would love to meet for coffee or shopping!
About Twitter, I use Hootsuite. I can schedule posts for FB or Twitter through it, and it lets me see both streams and messages. It’s great! Blessings sweet friend, I’ve been praying for you!

    • Thank you for your prayers, friend…I’m so thankful for you. :) As far as this week’s post goes, I’m not sure there was a right way to write it…and maybe it was more to get us thinking about and open to where we are and how God wants us to share the love. :) I thought your post was great…what you shared about Beth Moore was the encouragement I needed this week. So thank you! Oh, I hope that coffee/shopping will happen someday! And thanks for the Twitter info, too…I will have to check that out. Blessings, friend!

  13. Hi Mel, I love what you said. I am always trying to figure out my dream, but I feel like God is telling me to serve others, to love them and encourage them. That’s something I can do everyday.
