Five-Minute Friday: Jump

Today I’m linking up with Lisa-Jo for Five-Minute Friday.

Join me!

The rules: Write for five minutes. No editing, revising, overthinking, or backtracking. Just write.

Today’s Topic: Jump

I watch her jump Every. Single. Day.

It’s one of her favorite things.

Whether she’s jumping from a chair, jumping on the bed (which she’s technically forbidden to do but still does…) or simply jumping to the next place she’s planning to go, the girl lives to jump.

And there are times I have to ask her, in all of her two year-old non-understanding, to stop, simply for my sanity.

But the truth is, I think it’s adorable…the way she finds so much pleasure in the simple. The way jumping down each back step brings a smile to her face…and, well, it makes me smile, too. Really big.

I get so caught up in the busy of life…things that occupy way too much time, and I forget that sometimes, joy can be found in the simplest of things.

A few days ago we were taking a little walk down the sidewalk in our neighborhood.

She looked at me. Mommy, jump?

I obliged.

We jumped down the sidewalk.

And it was the best part of my day.

You know, I might just spend tomorrow holding her hand…and we’ll jump through our day together.

  1. I love this.

  2. too cute. seriously.

  3. Finding pleasure in the simple. I like that! Thanks for sharing. Happy Weekend.

  4. This was adorable. I loved it!! Thanks for sharing =)

  5. I need to remember this daily. It’s all too easy to look at our littles dawdling away, jumping, skipping, hopping, when we’re running late, and yell or scold them for taking too long. I’m so guilty of telling my Stinker to hurry up all the time — so what if we’re a couple minutes late. I need to learn to let him enjoy his jumps a bit more… and maybe join him. :) Thanks for this!

    • I’m guilty of that, too…always wanting her to hurry. It’s an intentional thing for me…deep breaths and taking time to smell every flower, like she does. It’s really a beautiful way to live. Plus, I’m getting pretty good at jumping (and landing) in heels. πŸ˜‰ Have a great weekend!

  6. Oh yeah, cherish this time. Because one day they are grown up and they want to walk down the sidewalk without you, in front of you, behind you. Anywhere but next to you. And there is NO jumping involved when that time comes. Just a deep need for independence. So enjoy the jumping while you can – hold that hand tightly and JUMP!

    • Thank you for that reminder. I forget sometimes that the hand-holding days won’t last forever, even if I want them to. Blessings! :)

  7. So sweet!!! Such freedom!

  8. Heart. Melted. It’s the little things like that that make life so much better.

  9. I jump with my little girl too! Something about that one or two seconds of flying!

    Be Blessed.

  10. How sweet! Life is so much simpler in the eyes of our tinies. They find joy in the littlest things and so want to share it with us. So thankful to share these moments with my guys and to have you share yours. Blessings.

    • It’s a good reminder to me that because it’s important to her, I need to make it important to me, too. Blessings to you, too, friend. Have a wonderful weekend! :)

  11. Be still my heart!!! Love this. Oh how I miss the simple things.

  12. Dear Mel
This reminds me of my childhood and how we enjoyed playing hop-scotch! That was now a lot of jumping and I just loved it. Yes, jump with your little one. That is time wisely spent!
    Much love
    Mia

  13. So sweet! We’re off to see my niece tonight & I can promise you that she and my daughter will end up jumping on the bed. Even though they, too, are forbidden. Honestly? I kind of wish I could join them :)

  14. My little girl(now grown) also loved to jump to the point that we went trough 3 trampolines in her childhood. As much as her endless jumping got on my nerves I would love a chance to see that little blonde haired girl come bouncing through.

    • :) I was just asking my hubby today if she is ready for a trampoline. Probably not for a few more years, but I know she’ll love it!

  15. The sweet abandonment of childhood is a refreshing diversion in these days…

  16. Love it! There are some days we can learn more from our kids than we ever thought possible. They pour out joy, love, and freedom. It’s a beautiful thing!

  17. I love living in the simple things with my kiddos too. My daughter is very similar to yours. We do a “1, 2, 3, JUMP” walk down the street together often. :)

    • So sweet. :) She also loves 1, 2, 3 swing…when we’re both holding her hands. It’s precious and adorable as long as we both know it’s coming! :)

  18. I love it. My little guy loves to jump from piece of furniture to furniture (my husband calls it parkour). It scares me, but he is so happy doing it. Hmm, is there some deeper truth in there? I will have to think about it. I hope it is sunny where you are this weekend!

    • Well, it’s snowing right now. In April. Which is really not ok with me, but apparently it’s supposed to hit the 60’s on Sunday and bring a bit of sun with it, too. We shall see. :) Happy weekend, friend! :)

  19. Physically jumping. I tried it about 3 weeks ago, and yes it felt absolutely wonderful. Me and my sunshine, we counted and we jumped. The one thing that made it difficult though, was everything else jumping all over the place. πŸ˜‰

  20. My girls have gotten into the habit of going over the jump on our neighbor’s trampoline after dinner, these warmer evening.

You’ve reminded me how much I used to love jumping–I just think I’ll join in next time!

    • I was trying to tell my husband that Mae is ready for a trampoline. (She’ll be three in June.) He disagreed. πŸ˜‰ Maybe in a few years, but I have a feeling I’ll be right there jumping with her! (And you should totally join them!) Have a great weekend, friend! :)

  21. Don’t children just have this way have reminding you how to live life? Praying for a blessed jump filled day tomorrow!

    • I decided I’m just going to jump every day with her. It’s too much fun. πŸ˜‰ Blessings, friend…have a wonderful weekend!

  22. So. Sweet. I remember my little ones doing that. What beautiful memories and I think you are the wisest to decide to spend it with her just jumping through the day. May it be blessed!
