Five Minute Friday: Broken

Today I’m linking up with Lisa-Jo for Five-Minute Friday.

Join me!

The rules: Write for five minutes. No editing, revising, overthinking, or backtracking. Just write.

Today’s topic: Broken

The word hurts.

It does.

Broken.

There are so many things in life that I have allowed to break me…from hurt feelings to parents splitting up to struggling for a baby to being forced to start over in a new place.

And I think sometimes it’s ok to break…to get to that point where there’s nothing left to lean on but my Father.

Because that’s what He does…He takes those who are broken, and when we let Him,

He fixes us.

Heals us.

Glues those broken pieces back together in the way that only He can.

I think back a few years ago…when we stared down so many unanswered questions…life just felt broken.

So broken.

And now I look back, and I just smile…because He knows what He’s doing.

I see that in the little girl who fills my days and the new place that has become our home; in the ways He has led our family and the things He does each day in our lives.

And I’ll take those pieces of life that have been put back together by my Healer any day.

Because they’re beautiful.

Thank you, Father, for taking the broken and making it so much more beautiful than I ever could have dreamed.

And, could I ask a little favor, sweet friends? :)

If you haven’t had a chance yet to hop over to CausePub, would you take the time to read my story and vote?  I submitted A Moment of Love,  and am hoping like crazy that it will be accepted into their book project; the proceeds from this book will go to Blood:Water Mission in Africa.

You can go here to vote for it. :) Thanks so much!

  1. Oh yes… He takes our broken and turns them beautiful!! What wonderful words friend.

  2. Beautiful!! I love your vulnerability and your heart. Thank you for sharing!!

  3. Oh yes! He puts the pieces back together perfectly. I’ll take that any day!

  4. I never thought I was one for holding onto my pieces but I realized just a few months ago, that I do! God can’t fix me unless I submit to Him to be fixed! But when I do, and He does……..perfection!

    • Love how you said that…I just shake my head when I think about the times I’ve tried to fix “me” myself…He does a much better job! :) Blessings and happy weekend to you, friend! :)

  5. Experiencing the brokenness is such a reminder of God’s mercy and grace. That He is sufficient for us. When the healing comes in His most perfect way we can see just how beautiful He is! I too would take back those broken pieces that have been healed by Him any day!! Blessings friend!!

    • And we need those reminders, don’t we? They’re never fun at the time, but seeing how He redeems is so beautiful. :) Blessings right back to you, sweet friend…and happy weekend, too!

  6. “And I think sometimes it’s ok to break…to get to that point where there’s nothing left to lean on but my Father.” That’s the place we all have to get to, isn’t it? We were on the same page this week, Mel, with coming to God to fix our brokenness!

    • Definitely a place we all have to go…and need to go sometimes. I love reading the posts this week…such a good prompt. :) Happy weekend to you, sweet friend!

  7. And when we let Him, He fixes us. That is truth! We have to let Him in first. Thank you for that reminder. Happy Friday, friend! xoxo

  8. I’m in that place too, looking back at the broken and smiling because it’s been woven together to create beauty. It’s a grateful, amazing place to be. Smiling for you too, friend!

  9. So much beauty comes from the broken when we let Him heal us and use us. Loved this, friend!

  10. Isn’t it amazing, friend, to truly trust His ability and desire to heal our brokenness, if we will let Him?? I was literally broken – as in a spinal cord ailment that left my body bro-ken. He literally glued me up – my body – and beloved, my soul as well. Without that broken time, I would never, ever know what His wholeness truly was. Oh that He loves us enough for this. Thanks again for sharing! Love, love.

    • Wow…thanks for sharing that story! What a tangible glimpse into the healing He can do in us! Praise Him. :) Blessings and happy weekend to you, friend!

  11. I’m so thankful that He puts our pieces back together!

  12. Oh yes – This makes me think of the clay pots…He puts us back together but allows His light to shine through. Blessings to You!

  13. Amen. Sometimes it is frustrating that hindsight is so clear. I so want to know that God has in store for me, but having faith that God knows is ultimately makes me a stronger person. Blessings and happy weekend!

  14. Dear Mel
I always compares God’d ways of making us beautiful with cross-stitch embroidery. We are the embroidery cotton and we feel every stitch He sews. But our Pappa sees only the one thing, and that is the beautiful end product. He does say that He refines us through suffering!

  15. Visiting from FMF today!

I love your thoughts on this. They really resonate. I so agree, the broken pieces that He has mended are so much more beautiful. Suffering makes joy all that more sweet! Your post reminded me of this great pin I saw: http://pinterest.com/pin/226165212508857667/

“To mend with gold.” Isn’t that what He does?

    Happy Friday!

  16. “Thank you, Father, for taking the broken and making it so much more beautiful than I ever could have dreamed. ” so true. It is in our brokenness that we can truly see His strength, and for this I am thankful.
