When I was a kid (and even now I guess) I was always overly concerned about animals. On TV when a cowboy got shot and he and his horse fall to the ground, I cried for the horse, not the cowboy! (Sorry, Tobin.) Thanks for finishing the story!

We watched it for a couple of weeks, and it never developed more symptoms of rabies…but it also didn’t get any better. We ended up putting it down…that felt more humane than releasing it to be eaten by another animal. (I guess I forgot that part of the story!) 😉

My brother was hospitalized for this as well. Maybe, like Spiderman, Tobin now has 9 lives and kitty-senses! But seriously, I’ve been left hanging: what happened to the cat? Or is it something you shouldn’t admit publicly? 😉

I skipped the “somewhat-recommended” rabies vaccine, too. The area where we lived was technically rabies free, though we always wondered. I’m pretty sure I’ve been vaccinated for just about everything else, though! 😉 Next time you go to Nepal, I want to tag along…I saw that episode of 19 Kids and Counting when Jill goes there, and I’m SO fascinated. It’s totally getting added to my bucket list.

It was SO crazy…who knew a cat could cause that?! Thankful we only have a good story to tell and that God worked everything out.

wow.. this story had me on the edge of my seat. Tobin.. I was glad to see your face pop up above mine to let me know you really are ok it also reminded me of a nepal thing (of course). There were rabid street dogs everywhere. Our mission board recommended that we get the rabies vaccine in the states before coming, but I hate needles (and paying for them) so I skipped it. My teammate leah did not. We always joked because she said if a rabid dog came towards me, she would push me out of the way and let it bite her. But then we would laugh and acknowledge the dog would still probablly go around her and bite me thankfully never had to try!

It should be noted that I personally wasn’t doing much of the “looking” for the vaccination. The entire school community was blessed to have the medical resource we did – a US citizen we could trust, but who also was fluent in the local language and culture. Without her, I very well may have ended up on a plane to Singapore that day.

My FIL was bit in the hand by a “healthy” but scared cat and got blood poisoning, just as you described. Ended up in the hospital for like 5 days…really scary! I can’t imagine dealing with that in another country!!
